Family Living Focus: Get a good night’s sleep

Older people who tend to nap during the day will sleep fewer consecutive hours at night. This may contribute to changes in the daily rhythm of several hormones and changed in body functions, such as temperature. As we get older, it may take longer to fall asleep when we lie down and more difficult to stay asleep. We may wake up more frequently during the night and find it more difficult to fall asleep again or to get additional good quality sleep.

Strategic Farming: Let’s talk crops!

Over the last couple of years, it seems that few weeks go by without at least one news article or video about carbon markets in the Ag press each week. On March 16, Dr. Anna Cates, University of Minnesota Extension State Soil Health Specialist and Jodi DeJong-Hughes, University of Minnesota Extension Soil Health and Water Quality Educator joined University of Minnesota Extension Crops Educator, Liz Stahl for a wide-ranging discussion on whether storing carbon is possible in production Ag systems and the potential benefits to soil resiliency (and one’s pocketbook) by working to improve soil health. Volunteer precipitation observers needed

How heavy was the rain overnight? How much snow fell during the winter storm? How bad is the drought this year? The National Weather Service is looking for additional volunteers to record and share measurements of precipitation in and around Redwood County. The addition of even a few observers across the area will lead to a more accurate picture of the weather’s impact. Your reports will truly make a difference!

Wabasso Senior Dining Menu through March 31

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Wabasso Senior Dining is only offering home delivery of meals, until further notice. Home delivery is available to those residing in Wabasso, Wanda, Lucan, Seaforth, Vesta, Delhi, Lamberton, Redwood Falls, Clements, Morton, Fairfax, Franklin, Gibbon, and Winthrop. To order a meal, or for more information, call Diane at 507-829-2385. You are asked to call one day prior by noon to order a meal. The cost is $4 a meal for those ages 60 and over; $2 on Thursdays for Wabasso residents. In response to social distancing measures, there are no senior dining activities in Wabasso at this time.
