LUCAN - The funeral service for Betty Ann Jaeger, 90, of Lucan, will be Wednesday, January 12, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Wabasso. A livestream of the service will be available on the St. Matthew Lutheran Church Facebook page. The recording can be watched later at www.stmatthewwabasso.com. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m., and Wednesday from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. at the church. Interment will follow the service at St. Matthew Lutheran Cemetery in Wabasso.

WHITEFISH, MT - Phyllis Jean (Gray) Bjorsness, age 92, of Whitefish, MT. Treasured wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother and friend passed away December 14, 2021. She was preceded in death by parents Florence and Bill Gray, husband Alan, son Scott and brother Bob Gray. I missed a meeting this morning. Another, more urgent meeting had been scheduled at the same time and I had no choice but to bow out of the first meeting, which was disappointing given the fact that the topic of the meeting I missed was all about identifying the most significant changes the members of my clergy small group and I have experienced over the past two years.

School district assesses needs, fixes of Reede Gray Elementary

The Redwood Area School District is in the process of reviewing a Feasibility Study for the Reede Gray Elementary building. The district contracted with WOLD architects a year ago. The purpose was to identify needs and put a price tag to the “fixes.” The list is long and the price tag high. Thus, the Board of Education has asked for prioritization and solution options.

Minnesota State University, Mankato awarded 2,276 degrees to 1,941 students Dec. 11 at commencement . The following area students were among the graduates. From Redwood Falls: Aaron Boyle, BS, Biology; Madelyn Einck, BS, Psychology, Summa Cum Laude; Alexis Klinkner, BS, Marketing, Summa Cum Laude; Emma Rosen, BS, Finance; Rhylee Schmidt, BS, RN Baccalaureate Completion, Cum Laude. From Morton: Ava Lund, BS, Mass Media. From Lucan: Jacob Plaetz, BS, Accounting, Cum Laude. Ridgewater College, with campuses in Willmar and Hutchinson, announced the Deans’ lists for 2021 Fall Semester for students who maintain a GPA of 3.5 or higher. From Redwood Falls: Katharine Klause, Payton Nelson, Anna Rohland, Marissa Rosen; and Ryan Liebl from Wabasso. The University of Wisconsin-Superior announced the Dean's List for academic achievement, a GPA of at least 3.50, during the 2021 Fall semester. Area students are Carter Brown of Redwood Falls and Paxton Dandurand of Sacred Heart. Augustana University in Sioux Falls announced that Andrew Stephens of Redwood Falls earned the Presidential Scholarship for 2021-22. This scholarship recognizes students who have demonstrated academic excellence and plan to major in a science-related field. The student must possess an ACT score of 27 or a 3.7 GPA. Ehlers interest-free student loans due date approaching: The cost of a college education continues to rise, and, for some, those costs can hinder their goal of earning a degree. In an effort to help address those financial realities a program was established in Redwood Falls by benefactor Martin Ehlers. The program provides interest-free funds for students living in Redwood County or attending school in Redwood County. Application deadline is May 2.
