Cougar girls win holiday tournament to remain unbeaten

The CM/Comfrey girls basketball team improved to 7-0 on the season by recently winning the 4th Annual Cougar Holiday Tournament in Morgan.
In the opening night of the tournament, the Cougars jumped out to a 34-15 halftime lead over BOLD and cruised from there to a 55-37 victory.
Nicole Kerkhoff had a strong outing finishing with 22 points and nine rebounds.
Kayla Mathiowetz added 14 points, seven rebounds, four steals and four assists and Jaime Hanson had 11 points, 10 rebounds and five assists.
Beth Ochs chipped in with six points and four steals and Ashley Schumacher added five assists.
The Cougars then wrapped up their fourth straight tournament title with a 63-32 pounding of Southwest Star Concept.
Once again, strong shooting helped the Cougars jump out to a comfortable 33-16 halftime lead and they would coast from there to an easy victory.
Mathiowetz finished with 17 points and four steals and Kerkhoff added 15 points.
Hanson chipped in with 10 points and four steals and Ochs had seven points and four assists.
Laura Cornell finished with six points, Rachel Hoffbeck added four points, Corrie Tews had two points and six rebounds and Jessie Evers had two points.
“The girls are off to a great start,” Coach Mike Kelly said,
CM/Comfrey is currently ranked second in the latest Class A poll and are also unbeaten (4-0) in Tomahawk Conference play.
As a team the Cougars are outscoring their opponents by a whopping 56-39 margin and have really only been challenged once in a 56-55 win over BL/Hector.
