Golden Eagles open season in Grand Forks, N.D.

    The University of Minnesota Crookston tennis team begins its 2017 schedule at 5 p.m. Saturday at Choice Health & Fitness Center in Grand Forks, N.D.

    The Golden Eagles will face off against non-conference opponent College of Saint Benedict.

    UMC begins its first season under head coach Lee Meier, who had previously been a long-time assistant coach at Crookston High School.

    CSB enters the weekend with a 2-2 record with wins over Buena Vista University and the University of Wisconsin-Stout.

    Laura Finn leads the club in No. 1 singles with a 3-1 mark and is followed by Tessa Rahrick, who enters with a 2-2 record at No. 2 singles. Together, Finn and Rahrick are the No. 1 doubles team with a 2-2 record.

    The Golden Eagles have three returnees from last year’s squad. Junior Whitney Erickson returns with two years of experience for UMC who last season went 3-12 in singles and was slotted No. 2. She also paired with Catherine Brown in doubles and went 3-12.

    Sophomore Reanne Erickson also returns, who posted an 0-10 record at the No. 4 slot in singles last year and also competed in No. 2 doubles.

    Sophomore Tien Nguyen joins the returnees, as well, who last season went 0-13 at No. 6 in singles.

    The Golden Eagles have four newcomers to the squad this year, including Yoonhee Cho, Ellen Dauphinais, Hanna Ruckheim and Adrianna Tiede.
