Letter to the Editor

Health care plan a nightmare scenario
What’s the big rush?

Grandmother of all culture clashes

I had two grandmothers. That’s not special in itself.
Most people do.
My Minnesota grandmother  – born a couple of miles east of Fort Ridgely – and my Ten-nessee grandmother had very different experiences of life.

A few personal ‘thank-yous’

There are so many people in all of our lives who not only are willing to offer a helping hand, but these same people consistently go above and beyond to help when the call comes.
Over the past few months, there have been many people like that in my life who have bent over backwards to provide something extra for me or for someone in my family.

What’s next?

The past few days have been relatively quiet in the Redwood Area, as the two weeks of non-stop action from TRAM through the end of Farmfest are now wrapped up.
We want to congratulate everyone who was involved with these and other events, including the Redwood County Fair, for the great demonstrations of community shown to those who were visiting our town. We appreciate the fact that so many volunteers showed up to help – making these events successful beyond what we would have envisioned.

Hundreds of tumors

Officials issue ash borer quarantine in 2 counties

A state quarantine has been issued on firewood, ash trees and ash tree products in two Minnesota counties after this week's discovery of emerald ash borer.

Lucan’s Memorial Day was wonderful

A few people do so much to make my Mem-orial Day a wonderful experience.  We have a great program at our community center starting at 6:30 p.m. with the Lucan Area Band playing until 7. If that doesn’t get you in a patriotic mood, nothing will.

You help make Captain Dan Days great

It is with deepest appreciation that we send this thank you to you for your part in helping to making our event the success it was.

You can be proud of your students

During the week of May 20 - 22 the Chippewa County Historical Society hosted its 30th annual Heritage Week.

Bike rodeo is June 9

A Bike Rodeo is being held for bikers of any age June 9 from 5:30-7 p.m at the Red-wood Area Community Center north parking lot. Activities include bike safety information, head injury prevention, free helmet fittings, helmet decoration station, lawn mower safety, booster seat safety and two rodeo obstacle courses. Helmets are required to participate in this bike rodeo.  This year 65 bike helmets are being given away while supplies last.

Ouradas are doing it right

Over the May 16-17 weekend, I had the privilege of attending Captain Dan Fun Days in Lucan.  Then on the following Monday morning, I read the article “Sharing the Love in Lucan” by Rae Kruger.  That article did a fabulous job of covering the loving reason for the event. After reading that, I felt compelled to add a little more to the story to explain the “sparkle and essence” of the days.

Disappointed with cemetery maintenance

During Memorial day weekend, my wife and I  visited many cemeteries in the area.

Annual St. Jude’s ride a success

Some weeks ago I wrote to the paper the Schmidt Country Riders were again hosting a ride to raise money for the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.  The ride was May 16.

Scott-Preusse a model company

I have done business with Scott-Preusse for many years. It is a “model” for the way every dealership in America should be, but sadly is not.

The purpose of this letter is to request that Minnesota Legislators lift the moratorium on the construction of new nuclear energy facilities in Minnesota.
