Redwood County Deputy Dave Hester, who started on the department about one month ago, comes to his new job with an impressive resume.
Hester started his law enforcement ca-reer in the Air Force where he worked as a law enforcement specialist for six years.
He then went on to work almost 10 years in corrections in the State of Florida.
“To get the training I needed, I worked in corrections,” Hester said.
“I worked in corrections with the idea of getting back on the road. After 10 years in corrections I said, ‘Hey, what happened to my plan?’”
Hester went on to get more training in college and then found an opening at the Lower Sioux Indian Community where he has spent the last six years working as a police officer.
“Law enforcement has been something that I have always wanted to do,” Hester said. “When I joined the military, I had to wait six months on a deferred enlistment to have a position in law enforcement open up.”
While in the service, Hester served on Okinawa, in the Philippines and various places in the United States.
Hester said that he is glad to be on the county department and excited to serve the community at large.
