1962—50 years ago
• A 175-pound calf was born on the James Wolters farm, the largest Holstein calf reported in the Redwood area in years. The average Holstein weighed about 90 pounds a birth, and the size of the calf caused the death of its mother.
• Bob Palmer of Redwood was appointed to the governor’s advisory committee on water pollution control.
• Unable to stop because of glare ice, a Marshall man smashed his 1961 Cadillac into the rear of a RFHS school bus filled with children on Highway 19 west of Redwood. There were no injuries.
• The Redwood Falls Rotary Club celebrated its 40th anniversary with a magic show at the golf club.
• A Redwood Falls man was charged with third degree burglary after being caught shoveling 800 lbs of coal into the trunk of his car. The Fullerton Lumber company had reported to police that coal had been disappearing from their bins all week long.

1987—25 years ago
• The Redwood Falls Police Department reported it saw 500 more calls in 1986 than it had in any other year. Police Chief Michael Gerrety said the increase was partly due to the public’s greater willingness to report crimes such as domestic abuse, child abuse, and sexual assault.
• A lost Menomonie, Wisc. man pulled into the law enforcement center parking lot and asked an officer for directions. The driver was arrested for drunk driving after the officer smelled alcohol on his breath.
• Richard Tuohy, an attorney from Minneapolis, spent several hours walking around Redwood Falls with a “Stop Abortion” sign to protest a Planned Parenthood plan to set up referral centers in state county seats.
• In non-Redwood news, 15 people escaped injury after a hot-tub burst into flames near Tracy.
• The Redwood Falls Public Library sponsored the free showing of a new family film, The Secret of Nimh, in the Lincoln School little theater.

2002—10 years ago
• The thrift shop next to the county museum reopened with a new name — Redwood Westside Center — and new, all-volunteer staff.
• The public library unveiled its new $65,000 interactive video system, which would allow for meetings and presentations to be broadcast to other facilities across the state.
• The city started a new $46,000 resurfacing project  of the westernmost two tennis courts at the corners of Gould and Second Streets.
• The Morgan’s SuperValu Cookies for Education drive hit its stride, with 10,232 cookies sold to date to benefit Reede Gray Elementary School activities.
• After many events were cancelled or postponed due to an expected monster blizzard, the storm itself just dropped a piddly two inches of snow on the area.
