The RVHS Class of 2009 is scheduled to finish its time in high school Sunday when each of the approximately 90 members of the senior class don the cap and gown and walk into the Redwood Valley gym.
This Sunday at 1 p.m. a graduation ceremony is taking place to honor the senior class and to allow them to receive their high school diplomas.
According to RVHS principal Don Yrjo, the commencement is set to take about an hour, with six members of the class speaking – Kelsey Guetter, Julianna Passe, Kirsten Bielen, Ann Buboltz, Hannah Bitker and Brandon Arentson.
Yrjo called this year’s senior class an excellent group of academic achievers.
“We have a nice group of well-rounded students,” said Yrjo, adding the class saw success in the fine arts, in academic programs and in athletics.
“I am happy to see they set the bar high,” said Yrjo, adding down the road they are going to see the benefits of that effort.
Yrjo said the class has overcome challenges along the way, including the loss of classmates, which he said are the kinds of hurdles in life that can help them as they move beyond time in high school.
This is a class that could experience great success in the years to come.
The public is encouraged to attend the ceremony.
