Redwood Falls, Minn. —
The sewer reconstruction on the road leading down to the city animal shelter and burn pile should be finished this or next week.
“We’re restoring the main sanitary sewer lines going down to the (water treatment) ponds,” said the city’s project manager, Jim Doering.
“The manholes have been in place since 1968, and corrosion from sewer gases deteriorated them beyond repair.”
The project, which started Oct. 18, was slowed down for a week when construction workers found one manhole site filled with quicksand.
“We’d take one shovel of sand out, and another would fill its place,” Doering said.
After repairs are finished, the city will have to restore the 15th hole of the Redwood Falls golf club.
“One of the manholes was underneath the sand trap, so we’ll have to do some reconstruction of the golf course,” Doering said.
“The important thing is that the burn pile and animal shelter will be open again soon. We appreciate everyone’s patience, but we needed to get that project done soon.
“Almost everyone in town’s bathroom comes to that one point, then down the hill, so it was sort of important.”
