Originally from St. Paul, Amy Joubert figured homelessness would not be that much of an issue in Red-wood County.
What she has learned over time is that it might not have the same sort of look in southwest Minnesota as it would in larger more metropolitan areas, but it is still a significant issue.
Joubert is continuing to learn more about the plight of the homeless in Redwood County in her new position as a self-sufficiency case manager for Western Community Action (WCA).
Joubert, who started with WCA this past December, works with a variety of programs from providing rent assistance to help those who need help keeping fuel in the furnace.
“I can also provide longer term help from those who might need it,” said Joubert, adding the qualification for WCA assistance is based on one’s income.
Those income guidelines are established by the federal government.
While Joubert is new to WCA, she is not new to some of the programming she is implementing, especially as it relates to housing.
Prior to working for WCA, Joubert worked with the housing program for the Lower Sioux Community, and prior to that worked with the federal Section 8 program in St. Cloud.
