For three days starting tomorrow, the Gilfillan Estate between Redwood Falls and Morgan is once again going to be the site for Farmfest – the largest agriculturally-focused exposition in Minnesota.
According to Todd Benz, Cygnus Farm Shows group director, this year’s farm show has a mix of traditional activities those who have attended in the past are going to recognize, as well as a few new things.
“We have more exhibitors this year than we did a year ago,” said Benz. “There are over 500 companies showing this year.”
Despite the increase in exhibitors for 2009, Benz admitted the dynamic of Farmfest has changed because of the economic challenges the ag industry is facing.
“The world of agriculture is far from immune from this down economy,” said Benz, adding that means many of the smaller, more independent companies are more apprehensive and therefore might not be showing this year.
Yet, he added, the core companies that have been part of Farmfest for years are going to be there.
Farmfest opens its doors Tuesday at 8 a.m., and things get started right away that day with a forum starting at 10:30 a.m. in the main forum tent.
