As of this Tuesday (July 10), the public will have the opportunity to purchase a variety of locally grown and made items at the Redwood Falls Farmers Market.
Located in the parking lot at the corner of Bridge and Washington streets in Redwood Falls this annual event is scheduled to begin July 10 and will continue twice each week into October.
According to Cathy Balderston, who helps coordinate the local farmers market, vendors will offer their wares Tuesdays from 2-5:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m.
“The farmers market will be open for 15 weeks,” said Balderston, adding what is offered will vary from week to week based on what is ready.
A wide variety of things will be offered throughout the season. The list of items includes various vegetables, homemade baked goods and canned items from pickles and salsa to jams and jellies.
Recent efforts have made the Redwood Falls Farmers Market an event for the entire family, as a program called the Power of Produce (PoP) is being offered for kids. Through this program, children ages four to 12 who visit the farmers market can stop by the PoP booth and receive a $2 token to spend on fresh fruits and vegetables.
“On Tuesdays there will also be an education program for the kids who come,” added Balderston.
Balderston said the Redwood Falls Farmers Market is a Minnesota Grown venture, adding EBT, credit and debit cards are accepted.
Vendors are welcome to participate in the farmers market, with a fee of $75 for the season. To learn more about becoming a vendor, contact Balderston at (320) 522-1043.
The Redwood Falls Farmers Market is made possible through its program partners, including the SNAP-Ed Community Partnership of the University of Minnesota Extension Service, the Redwood Area Food Shelf, the United Community Action Partnership (UCAP) and the Statewide Health Improvement Partner-ship (SHIP).
