The Dakota culture will be on display this coming weekend, when the 41st annual Lower Sioux Wacipi is held.
The event, which takes place June 8-10 at the Lower Sioux Community pow wow grounds, is held each year as a time to gather and celebrate but also to educate others about the Native American way of life.
The Wacipi is scheduled to start Friday with a Grand Entry at 7 p.m. There will also be a Grand Entry Saturday at 1 and 7 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m.
A flag raising will take place each day at 10 a.m.
In the days leading up to the 2018 Wacipi the new Lower Sioux Royalty will be announced, with that royalty then presented during the Wacipi.
The host drum is Iron Boy from Prior Lake, with Butch Felix of Sisseton, S.D. and Jerry Dearly of Minneapolis serving as the emcees for the annual Wacipi.
Admission to the Wacipi is $5 for the weekend, with those 55 and older and five and under getting in for free.
The public is encouraged to attend the events taking place at Lower Sioux this coming weekend.
