Josephson shines as Cards gear up for Section run
The Redwood Valley boys track team will now gear up for the postseason following a solid eighth place finish Saturday at the Class A State True Team Meet held in Stillwater.
Holdingford (522) held off Montevideo (489) and Morris Area/CA (484) for the title while the Cards finished with 386 team points.
“The kids competed hard and it was a great experience for us to see where we stacked up against the best teams in the State,” Coach Andy Regnier said, “State is extremely deep and the competition is that tough so I’m very proud of these young men and what they were able to accomplish.”
It was a great outing for standout senior Logan Josephson who won the 100 meter dash (11.33) and the long jump (21’7’) with personal bests. He also finished second in the 200 (23.28) and was fourth in the 300 hurdles (42.43).
Senior Tommy Amberg was second in the triple jump (41’8”) and set a personal best in placing third in the long jump (20’ 7 1/4’). Jordan Mertens earned a fifth place finish in the triple jump with a personal best leap of 40’8” and he was eighth in the high jump (5’8”).
Kaleb Haase finished ninth in both the shot put (42’7”) and discus (115’3”). Jayson Peyerl was eighth in the 3,200 with a personal best time of 10:45.61, Deon Estebo was ninth in the 800 (2:08.89) and the 4x200 relay team finished ninth (1:40.46) with a season best. Kyle Huhnerkoch was 11th in both the 100 and 200 meter dashes.
The Sub-Section Tournament will take place Thursday at Inglis Field beginning at 3:30 p.m. with field events.
