Redwood Valley baseball team holds off Martin Co. West in slugfest
The Redwood Valley baseball team has earned the number seven seed in the upcoming Section 3AA postseason tournament and will travel to Minnewaska Area to face the Lakers at 11 a.m. Saturday morning.
The winner advances on to face either ACGC or NL/Spicer in second round North half action at 3 p.m. while the loser is eliminated.
The Lakers (13-5) will enter the game winners of eight of their past nine. Paynesville (13-3) is the top seed in the North while once beaten Luverne (19-1) holds down the top seed in the South.
Despite commiting five errors and surrendering six late runs the Redwood Valley baseball team held off host Martin Co. West 14-12 Friday night in Sherburn.
The Cardinals (5-9) led 14-6 heading into the bottom of the seventh and watched as MCW made a late rally to nearly pull off the comeback.
It was a huge game for senior Mitch Irlbeck who finished 5-for-5 at the plate with a pair of triples and three RBI’s. Jaden Van Hee went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI’s, Joe Salvati was 2-for-4 with a double and Cole Woodford went 2-for-4 with a homerun and an RBI. Travis Rebstock (two RBI’s), Kyle Lechner, Alex Louwagie and Spencer Quast (two RBI’s) all had hits in the win.
Louwagie picked up the win, going five innings and allowing just two earned runs (seven total) on eight hits, striking out five and walking a pair.
