Donald Walter Masching, 73, passed away March 6, 2018 after a long courageous battle with kidney cancer. Visitation will be at Mountcastle Turch Funeral Home, 4143 Dale Boulevard, Dale City, VA 22193 Monday, March 12 from 5 until 8 p.m. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Dale City Baptist Church, Woodbridge, VA Tuesday, March 13 at 10:30 a.m. Interment to follow at 12 p.m. in Quantico National Cemetery, with Marine honors, 18424 Joplin Rd, Triangle, VA 22172 Donald was born October 17, 1944 in Vesta to George and Marie Masching. He grew up in Belview and graduated from Belview High School in 1962, where he played sports and the guitar in a band with his friends. After graduation he joined the United States Marine Corps and was discharged in 1966. He served two years of active reserves. He worked for Vepco then Verizon (formerly Commonwealth and Contel Telephone Company), where he retired in 2002 after 32 years of dedicated service. Donald continued working with a new career at Prince William County Schools for 16 years and retired in December 2017. Donald loved hunting, fishing, boating, shooting, going on cruises, visits to Minnesota and most of all spending time with his family and grandchildren. He was a member of Redwood Falls Sportsman Club and the NRA. Donald is survived by his wife, Debbie Brown Masching, three sons Donald (Fawn), David (Jessica), Daniel (Megan) Masching, three stepsons Joseph Micer, David (Shiloh) and James (Zulma) Byars. Nine grandchildren Jamie, Beau, Riley, Luke Masching, Kaylee, Summer, Jonathan, Andrea, Savannah Byars. Three step-grandchildren Kiera, Triston and Skylar. One brother George Masching, two sisters Dorothy Zamzow and Darla (Jeff) Kimpling. One sister-in-law Regina Wilner, two brothers-in-law Frank (Wanda) Brown and John Brown. His ex-wife Linda Steele Masching. Many nieces, nephews and friends who will all miss him. Donald is preceded in death by his parents George and Marie Ziegler Masching and one infant brother.
