Garman, Frank and Sommers reach double-digits in win over Worthington

A 9-0 run to finish the game helped the Redwood Valley girls basketball team defeat visiting Worthington 49-42 Friday night in a Big South West Conference match-up.

Despite trailing by as many as seven in the second half, the Cards (4-11) rallied late, thanks to a strong defensive effort to pick up the quality win.

Haley Garman led the way with 15 points and eight rebounds and Rose Frank had 12 points and five boards.

Sydney Sommers finished with 10 points, six rebounds and three steals, Amy Martius had six points, two rebounds and three steals and Bri Panitzke added four points and two blocked shots. Josi Kodet chipped in with two points and two steals.

The Cards shot 40 percent from the floor (20-of-50) and held the Trojans to 36 percent shooting.

Tuesday night the Cardinals travelled to Jackson Co. Central looking for revenge from an earlier 62-60 loss at home in early December. Once again the Cardinals put up a good fight, falling 67-61 to the Huskies who won their sixth straight improving to 10-4 on the season.

The Cards trailed 25-22 at the break and would hang tight but the Huskies would knock down late free throws to close things out. Garman led the way with 17 points, Sommers added 16 and Frank finished with 15.
