Redwood County is pleased to announce the Plum Creek County Park grant proposal is included in the Greater Minnesota Regional Parks and Trails Commission funding priority list which will be presented to the Minnesota legislature for approval during the 2018 session.

The application for Redwood County’s Plum Creek County Park, which is located near Walnut Grove, was funded in the amount of $301,435.

The project includes the construction of six camper cabins, eight primitive campsites, two new vault toilets, a self-serve kayak/paddleboard rental station, an accessibility trail and improved gravel access roads.

The Greater Minnesota Regional Parks and Trails Commission was created by the Minnesota legislature in 2013. The commission undertakes system planning and provides recommendations to the legislature for Legacy Parks and Trails grants to counties and cities outside of the seven-county metropolitan area for parks and trails of regional significance.

In 2016, Plum Creek Park successfully achieved the designation of “regionally significant” which is necessary to apply for grant funding.

Inclusion on the commission’s funding recommendation is the first step in the funding process. Final approval of the recommendations lies with the Minnesota legislature.
