Dennis Wittwer, 76, of Joshua Tree, Calif. died Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at Manorcare Gentiva House in Palm Desert, Calif. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, December 21, 2017 from Nelson-Hillestad Funeral Home in Redwood Falls with burial to follow in the Redwood Falls Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, December 21, 2017, from noon until 1 p.m. Arrangements are with Nelson-Hillestad Funeral and Cremation Service of Redwood Falls. E-mail condolences may be sent via www.nelson-hillestad.com. Dennis Arthur Wittwer, the son of Lewis and Augusta (Kopischke) Wittwer, was born March 12, 1941 in Eagle Bend. He grew up in the Starbuck area and graduated from Cyrus High School. Dennis earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Bemidji State University in 1963 and Master's degree from Purdue University in 1968. Dennis was a life-long educator, teaching in Yucca Valley, Calif., first in the junior high school for five years, then in the high school from 1968-93. He was on the staff at Copper Mountain Community College from 1995-98. Dennis loved hiking, camping and fishing. He enjoyed doing yard work and always had all kinds of cacti incorporated in his landscaping. Dennis belonged to a square dancing club for many years. He is survived by his brothers Melvin (Luverne) Wittwer of Yucca Valley and Warren (Mercein) Wittwer of Bemidji and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Dennis was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Alton Wittwer, Aubrey Wittwer and Donna Wittwer at birth. Blessed be his memory.
