On Dec. 9 at 5:10 p.m., the Minnesota State Patrol was called to the report of a two-vehicle crash on TH19/71 in Paxton Township, Redwood County one mile southwest of Morton.
As a result of the crash, three individuals, Teresa Lynn Linde, 41, of Redwood Falls, Shauna Marie Kraft, 34, of Lakefield and Brexlee Brian Thammalong, one, of Lakefield were all killed.
According to the report, a 2002 Ford Windstar driven by Linde was traveling south on TH19/71, while a 2009 Mitsubishi Galant driven by Kraft was traveling north on the state highway.
The report states the driver of the Mitsubishi attempted to pass another vehicle on a bridge at that location and as a result struck the Ford head-on.
Two other passengers, Khampong Thammalong, 27, of Lakefield, and Tyler Loren Ybarra, seven, of Lakefield, sustained life threatening injuries in the crash. Thammalong was taken to the Hennepin County Medical Center for care, while Ybarra was transported to Children’s Hospital in St. Paul. No other information regarding their condition was available.
The report from the Minnesota State Patrol indicates both drivers were not wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash, nor was Ybarra. Seat belt use was listed as “unknown” for the other two individuals.
The portion of TH19/71 where the crash occurred was closed by the Minnesota Department of Transportation to allow for care of the individuals and to investigate the crash.
The report states road conditions were dry at the time of the crash.
