For Chris Schablin and Jason Garman, their idea has become reality.
After sitting down and talking about the vision of opening their own sales and service shop, Southwest Sales and Service was born. Officially it became a reality Aug. 1 when they opened the doors of their new business on East Bridge Street in Redwood Falls.
In the partnership, Schablin and Garman bring decades of experience to Southwest Sales and Service, as Schablin has 18 years of sales and management experience and Garman has 27 years of shop experience.
“I started working when I was still in high school,” said Garman.
It was about a year ago when the rubber hit the road for Schablin and Garman, as the started looking more seriously at their options in the community where both were born and raised.
“At first it was just a pipe dream,” said Schablin, adding, however, as time went on it started to look like the dream was something they could really achieve.
After looking at a few different options, Schablin and Garman opted to purchase a bare lot on Bridge Street, and there they erected a brand new building.
“We broke ground May 1,” said Schablin. “We opened 90 days later to the day.”
On the sales side, Schablin said Southwest Sales and Service offers all types of vehicles for sale, adding anything used from 2017 all the way back is an option for customers.
“If people ask, we will do our best to find it for them,” said Schablin, adding acquisitions of used cars is the same through Southwest as it is at any other dealership.
Over the years, Schablin has made connections he can now utilize in his own business as he looks for vehicles people want. When it comes to service, Garman said the shop can do everything from oil changes to transmission repair and replacement.
They can work on air conditioning, tires, batteries and a whole lot more. That work can be done on any make or model car that drives down the road – domestic or foreign.
Southwest Sales and Service in Redwood Falls is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Other times are also available by appointment. One can find out more about Southwest Sales and Service by calling Schablin or Garman at (507) 627-7770 or visiting the business Web site at www.swss1.com.
Garman and Schablin said business has been excellent since they opened earlier this year.
“The community support has been great,” said Garman, who added they had more than 400 people stop by their recent open house.
Garman and Schablin offer what they called “good quality honest work at a fair price.”
Including Garman and Schablin, there are currently four people working at Southwest Sales and Service, and as time goes on there is plenty of opportunity to add more. Schablin and Garman are excited about the opportunity that lies ahead for them, and they are looking forward to serving the community for many years to come.
