Ruby Schulz died July 17, 2017 at the Lutheran Home in Belle Plaine at the age of 90. A memorial service will take place at 11 a.m., Friday, July 28, 2017 at the Bloomington Lutheran Church in Bloomington. Lunch and fellowship to follow service. White Funeral Home Apple Valley, Ruby Emilia Ihde was born September 14, 1926 in Richwood (rural Watertown), Wis. to Fred and Ella (Hoefs) Ihde. Ruby was baptized, attended Lutheran Elementary School and was confirmed at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Richwood. At age 16, Ruby graduated from Watertown High School. After graduating from the Harper Method of Beauty Culture Training Center in Madison, Wis., Ruby worked at beauty salons in Chicago, Ill. and Watertown, Wis. On July 13, 1947, Ruby was united in marriage to Rev. Edmund O. Schulz at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Richwood. They were blessed with two sons, David and Thomas and one daughter Susan. Ruby faithfully served alongside Edmund at congregations in Rainer and Mountlake Terrace (Seattle), Wash.; Hazelton, N.D.; Redwood Falls and Hutchinson. Ruby taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, sang in the church choir, was a member of the Ladies Aid and Altar Guild, served as church secretary and was always the smiling face and friendly voice that greeted church goers on Sunday morning. Ruby was also a lifelong supporter and member of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary Society. Ruby was an avid seamstress, sewing clothes for herself and her children. Ruby was also a wonderful cook and baker, always trying new recipes. Each day Ruby enjoyed doing the daily newspaper crossword puzzle until it was completed. Those around her were also entertained by her humorous quips. In retirement, Ruby and Edmund made their home in Apple Valley, continuing to serve the church as long as their health allowed. Ruby is survived by her sons David (Patricia) of Lakeville and Rev. Thomas (Debra) of Phoenix, Ariz.; daughter Susan (Steven) Raddatz of Hastings; four grandsons (Peter, Jonathan, Nicholas and Matthew) and two granddaughters (Heidi and Mikaela); two great-grandsons (David and Nathan) and five great-granddaughters (Rebekah, Sara, Ruth, Laura and Jemma). She is also survived by her brother Donald (Doris) Ihde and many nieces and nephews. Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Edmund and her sister Margie Beckmann.
