Defending champion Johnny Larson looking for fifth straight win
The annual Palmer Kise Invitational will tee off this weekend beginning Saturday morning and wrapping up Sunday afternoon at the Redwood Falls Golf Club.
One year ago, Springfield native Johnny Larson earned his sixth Invitational title by holding off fellow six-time winner Mike Smith by three shots (142-145) in the 36-hole event. Larson and Smith have dominated the event in the past decade, with Larson winning the last four tournaments.
Veteran two-time champ Pat Smith is always a factor and will be back to compete. This could possibly be the year a first-timer like Eric Anderson, Zak Pendleton, Adam Hengel or Max Smith breaks through and captures the title.
The event opens up with 18-holes of action Saturday and will then go to 27-holes (championship flight) Sunday. The top-12 after 36 holes will play nine more, competing on the “original nine” holes (now 10, 11, 12, 2, 7, 8, 18, 1 and 9) to wrap things up.
Golfers and non-golfers alike are encouraged to come on out and check out the festivities. The Redwood Falls Golf Club has a unique 18-hole layout that offers one of the more scenic clubhouse views in the entire state.
