Sleepy Eye District #84 Board of Education met on Wednesday, Feb. 8 for their routine monthly meeting. EDA Coordinator Kurk Kramer presented information on the work of the Sleepy Eye Branding and Marketing Committee. He reported the committee recently contracted with Lime Valley Advertising for their professional assistance with the project.
High School Principal Shane Laffen reported he is completing teacher evaluations; the silent auction held recently during a cross-town game raised over 1,600 dollars for the PBIS program; and student-led conferences will be held on Feb. 23, with registration forms also due at that time.
Superintendent John Cselovszki’s report included recognition of the important contribution of school board members (see School Board Recognition Week, at right.) He also told the board his budget will include funds to expand the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) program to grades five to eight, along with providing exposure to students in kindergarten to grade four through enrichment activities.
Action agenda items approved:
•Teacher and para staff for elementary boot camp, an after school program held on nine days to help students get ready for the MCA tests.
•Resignation of Darcy McGee as Business Instructor as of the end of the school year.
•Resignation of Nicole Jensen as head volleyball coach.
•Resignation of Samantha Schmit as assistant volleyball coach.
•Disposal of surplus equipment (desks).
•Open enrollment requests, two out to Houston online school.
•Accepting anonymous donation of children’s coats.
The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, March 22 at 5:30 p.m.
