Crookston High School senior Matt Garmen was named the January 2017 Crookston Rotary Club Student of the Month. Garmen is the son of Greg and Susan Garmen and the sibling to CHS sophomore Nick and Jack, a seventh grader.

Matt has been on the A & B honor roll consistently through high school. He has also been a three sport athlete since seventh grade, which includes football, basketball and tennis. He has lettered in all three activities and has had the chance to take on a leadership role as a captain in basketball and football. Garmen is currently a member of the CHS Leo Club, Student Council and Choir.

“I really enjoy getting out and helping the Crookston community in any way that I can,” Garmen explained after he accepted his certificate from the Rotary Club. “One of my favorite things to do for the community is filling food boxes with the basketball team because it feels good to help people in need.”

“I have enjoyed other volunteer projects such as Meals on Wheels, donating blood and Sundaes on Sunday at the Villa,” he added.

Garmen’s future plans are to attend North Dakota State University (NDSU) and pursue either the Agriculture or Education field.

“A special thank you to my family for being here with me today and for guiding me through all the twists and turns life offers,” Garmen continued. “Thanks again to the Crookston Rotary Club for this award.”
