Wayne Philip Kammerer, 78, of Darwin passed away at his home January 31, 2017. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, February 4, 2017 at Grace Lutheran Church, Hutchinson. A gathering of family and friends will be held two hours prior to the service at church. Arrangements by Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, www.swansonpeterson.com. He was born on the farm in Redwood Falls March 14, 1938 to Harold and Amanda (Tordson) Kammerer. Wayne was confirmed at Bethany Lutheran Church in Wabasso and later was united in marriage to Phyllis Mae Kuester September 18, 1954 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Morgan. He spent eight years in the National Guard from March 1955 to March 1963 and 19 years on the Redwood Falls Fire and Ambulance Department. He farmed in Redwood County until 1967 and then worked for the city of Redwood Falls for 29 years. Wayne was a St. John’s Lutheran Church trustee, a Boy Pioneer leader and ushered for 16 years. He worked at St. Peter’s Church doing maintenance for six years. Wayne enjoyed fishing, often having fishing contests or taking the grandchildren to fishing contests each summer. He enjoyed going to garage sales, thrift stores, and helping Bob with swap meets. During the winter, Wayne enjoyed reading and baking, making very good cookies and overnight buns. He would spend time on the paddle boat or pontoon, taking family and friends for a ride around the lake. Wayne also enjoyed his many Hostas, and birds; such as cardinals, and eagles flying over the lake. Survived by his children, Shari (Bob) Schmidt, Linda Kammerer (Mike Sikora), Doug (Connie) Kammerer, Dave (Tammy) Kammerer and Dennis (Jannel) Kammerer, grandchildren, Derek (Michelle) Schmidt, Stephanie (Joe) Coomer, Dan Burdick, Nichole (Morgan) Holland, Dustin (Amy) Kammerer, Caitlin Kammerer, Samantha Kammerer, Jonathon (Maddie) Kammerer, Nathaniel Kammerer, and Zachary Kammerer, great-grandchildren, Tyler and Ellie Schmidt, Grace, Ryan, Evelyn, and baby Coomer, and Alayna Holland. Also survived by his sister Carol (Lyle) McCarty, and sister-in-law Barbara Kammerer, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Preceded in death by his parents and brother, Kenneth Kammerer.
