Irlbeck scores 50 points in two games to lead Cards past Benson, Lakeview

Thirteen Redwood Valley players reached the scoring column, as the Cardinals throttled Lakeview 79-65 for the HomeTown Bank Holiday Classic title Friday night in Redwood Falls.
The Cardinals – winners of five straight games – jumped out to a 44-27 double-digit lead by halftime and never looked back as they improved to 6-3 overall.
Redwood Valley will host defending Section 3AA champion Jackson County Central (6-1) Thursday night in a huge Big South West conference match-up.
Mitch Irlbeck – who scored 50 points in the two tournament games – led the way with 14 points, and Cole Woodford knocked down a trio of three pointers on the way to 12 points and five rebounds.
Senior James Pendleton added 12 points, eight rebounds and seven assists, as he now sits at 1,116 career points after going over the 1,000 career point mark in a narrow loss to Maple River.
Thomas Benson went 3-of-4 from long range to finish with nine points, and Cain Bratsch added six points.
Caden Hanna chipped in with five points, four assists and two rebounds, and Jake Henjum added four points, six rebounds and three blocked shots.
Logan Josephson finished with four points and three rebounds, and Kyle Huhnerkoch had four points, two rebounds and two assists.
The Cardinals had opened the tournament with a 75-59 win over Benson Thursday night, as Irlbeck poured in a career-high 36 points.
Woodford added 15 points and Pendleton 13 in the victory.
