The Redwood County Sheriff’s Department would like to remind residents to be cautious during the holiday season regarding telephone, mail and online scams.  
The public is reminded never to disclose personal financial information.   
Several different scams are commonly reported in the area. Some frequent scams investigated by the sheriff’s department office include: receiving over payment for online sales, requests for bail or financial assistance for a loved one  and threats of arrest unless a past due account is paid in full. Oftentimes these suspects will use threats and may even provide information about your loved ones.  
Many scams will involve wire transfers and/or the purchase of gift cards.  Additional information to help protect yourself, and to assist in identifying scams, can be obtained through the Minnesota attorney general's Web site at
