Morning Jolt: Family saves kitten tossed out of car

A Michigan couple were driving on the freeway in Dearborn, Mich., when they saw a kitten tossed from a speeding car. Ronald Haas and Niel Rishoi quickly stopped and picked up the kitten, who surprisingly was OK other than being “scared and panicked.” The couple then adopted her and named her Dora.

Morning Jolt: Bit by snake at Wal-Mart?

A man says he was bitten by a rattlesnake at a Wal-Mart in eastern Washington state. The man was in the outdoor gardening area and said he bent down to pick up a stick, but it turned out to be a rattlesnake. The snake wasn’t happy about being picked up and so bit the man, who was rushed to a hospital. The man survived but might have permanent damage to his hand.

On May 7, the police department received information about a juvenile runaway.

Morning Jolt: Man wins Powerball 6 times

A man who wishes to remain anonymous won a $1 million Powerball prize six times. He purchased six tickets using the same number and won the second prize of $1 million each time.

New developments put MIC on national radar

 

The Minnesota Inventors Congress office in Redwood Falls gets emails or phone calls from an average of two inventors an hour every business day — year in, year out.
And many of those inventors aren’t even in the United States.
“Most third world inventors understand the importance of launching a product in the United States. We help teach them the process of developing a marketable product,” said Deb Hess, Executive Director of the Minnesota Inventors Congress, last week.

Larry Leske, pharmacist at GuidePoint Pharmacy in Redwood Falls, estimates there are currently about 10,000 medications available for patients, and GuidePoint Pharmacy keeps about 3,000 of them on hand.
“We can get any of the rest the next day, since they’re delivered by courier Monday through Friday,” he said. “Most people don’t realize the extreme cost of the inventory we have to keep on hand.
“If we fill 6,000 prescriptions a month and haven’t used a medicine in three months, it’s tough to keep that one on the shelves."

RVHS Class of 2012: behind the scenes

 

When members of the RVHS Class of 2012 walk across the stage to receive their diploma many of the faces are going to be familiar to most in attendance.
However, there are many others who one might not recognize.
While these students may not have received the attention that their fellow classmates have for any of a number of reasons, their efforts still helped to define who this year’s seniors are and are going to be in the future.

Jorgenson recommended for RVHS principal position

After interviewing 24 applicants, the school district announced it will recommend long-time RVHS social studies teacher Rick Jorgenson as Don Yrjo's replacement as high school principal starting next school year.

Providing a special kind of education

 

In 1974, Mary DeBlieck came to the Redwood Falls School District as a special education teacher.
“I lived next door to two families with children that had special needs when I was growing up,” said DeBlieck. “These children did not have access to a free and appropriate education.”
So, she got involved in education....

Pasta maker Barilla is making Guinness World Record boxes of pasta for people in Turkey. The giant pasta boxes will be almost 5 feet tall and weigh half a metric ton. If someone buys one of these boxes – for $560 – it will be delivered because of its weight.
