Same day, same year

It all started Aug. 30, 1944 when more than 50 Redwood County residents loaded onto buses heading to Forth Snelling.
Fifty years later, a copy of the Morgan Messenger was discovered in a Morgan apartment which listed the names of those 53 men from all over the county who were on their way to war.
They met again last week, this time in a more peaceful setting - a local restaurant, to relive their war times.

As lovely as her name

On August 31, 2010, Rose Reed went to the Redwood County Department of Motor Vehicles to renew her drivers license.
Normally this wouldn’t be considered newsworthy. However, August 31, 2010, also happened to be Rose Reed’s 100th birthday.
“She took off her glasses for the eye test,” pointed out her son-in-law, David Paquette.

St. John's Lutheran School dedicated to God

When Jonah was in the belly of the great fish, he offered a prayer to God.
That prayer, said Mark Zarling, president of Martin Luther College in New Ulm, included phrases from the Psalms, which was an indication the prophet had received some form of education in his life.
“Someone taught him how to read,” said Zarling this past Sunday at the dedication of the new St. John Lutheran school in Redwood Falls.
