For people attending the 19th annual Czech Heritage Festival in Bechyn on Aug. 8, the answer will be “Happy and full of good food.”

Town Square Park takes shape

The final shape of the downtown park project became more visible this week.

 

We’re trying to recreate an old town square,” said Ramona Larson, of Tatanka Arts group.
“We want people driving by on the highway to look up and see the mural we painted on the side of the Thrivent Building, and see the row of trees leading up to the town.

Minnesota’s catfishing capital is hosting its 35th annual Catfish Derby Days celebration starting this Friday, with activities scheduled throughout the weekend in Franklin.

Pingel restores county cemetery as Eagle Scout project

In the northwest corner of Section 29 in Vesta Township, just a couple of miles southwest of Vesta, is a small family cemetery. For the past several decades, that cemetery had been abandoned, overgrown with brush. One could hardly see the few stones remaining in the site known as the Hustad/ Froland cemetery. To earn his Eagle Scout award, Tom Pingel, a seven-year member of the Boy Scouts, took on the restoration of the cemetery.

Secret garden

 

One of the most popular childrens books of all time is Frances Hodgson Burnett’s “The Secret Garden.” 
As it happens, Redwood Falls is full of secret gardens - ones hidden away in back yards, where hardly anyone gets to see them.
Next week, some of the town’s secret gardeners will be open their gardens to visitors as part of a fundraiser for the Redwood Area Library Foundation (RALF)

Redwood Falls author and educator Jeannie Uhlenkamp won the 2009 Book of the Year for Young Adult Nonfiction from ForeWord Reviews for her book “The Guide to Dating for Teenagers with As-perger Syndrome.

Tatanka Arts offering free art program during MIC

Tatanka Arts is sponsoring a free art creation station during the Minnesota Inventors Congress (MIC) Friday and Saturday.  Free art classes and projects for kids are being offered throughout the day from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. each day.  

Hall of Fame: the Inspiring Quintet

 

Inspiring:  that was the word Terry Marguth used to describe five individuals honored this past Wednesday during the annual Redwood Area Education Foundation Evening of the Stars event.

That's not where it ended. Each Hall of Fame nominee went on to describe people who went on to inspire them years ago.

“You write the pictures!” is the usual answer, which delights Carlson to no end.
