  • When the filing window closed for candidates seeking positions in city and school board elections, there were two contested races impacting the City of Redwood Falls. Four open seats are available in the Redwood Area School District, and seven candidates filed for those open positions, including Jim Boots, Clark Grannes, Tim Joyce, Tony Miller, Erica Plaetz and incumbents Rick Petersen and Kevin Passe. Long-time school board members Tom Gross and Tom Hollatz did not file to serve another term. All seven names are going to appear on the November ballot, with the top four vote recipients filling the open positions. In the City of Redwood Falls, there were four open positions available, including the position of mayor, as well as the Ward 3 council member seat and the council member at large. In addition, a special election is being held in Ward 1. Current mayor Corey Theis, who was appointed to fill the remainder of the mayoral post after the passing of Gary Revier, was the only individual who filed for the mayor seat, with Pam Prouty the only candidate filing to serve Ward 3. Jim Sandgren was the only individual who filed for the council member at large seat. Two individuals filed for the Ward 1 open seat, including Paul DeBlieck and Cindy LaBrie. Area filing information is going to be published in an upcoming edition of the Redwood Gazette. More on the candidates is going to be published as the November election nears.
