  • Bechyn Czech Heritage Festival set for Aug. 10

  • The village of Bechyn is known for the annual Czech Heritage Festival, a fundraiser for the church which brings hundreds of Czech-Americans from across the United States (and a few genuine Czechs) to this small village for one weekend every August.

  • Today home to just several families, Bechyn was originally founded in 1866 by 20 Czech immigrant families from near the town of Bechyne, Czechoslovakia. After staking their claim, they built a small village that was home to St. Mary’s Catholic church, a blacksmith shop, and store. Today Bechyn is known for the annual Czech Heritage Festival, a fundraiser for the church which brings hundreds of Czech-Americans from across the United States (and some genuine Czechs) to this small village for one weekend every August. The 23rd annual Czech Heritage Festival is set for Sunday, Aug. 10. Festivities begin with the traditional Polka Mass at 10 a.m. An authentic roast pork dinner will be served from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Stay for an afternoon of entertainment a variety of dancers and bands. Afternoon entertainment on the St. Mary’s grounds include: • Childrens “Housenka” rides * Quilt raffle • Farmers Market • Childrens games • Silent auction • Ethnic foods • Beer garden Watch presentations on Czech Republic travel experience, and about starting your own family history.
