  • The Latino community in the Redwood area has been growing in recent years, and many who first come to the area are not able to speak English. Helping those newcomers, as well as others who have not yet mastered the English as their second language, to hear the truth of God’s word and to enjoy being part of their culture is the intent behind an event which is taking place this Sunday afternoon in Memorial park near the aquatic center in Redwood Falls. That day from 3-7 p.m. Cornerstone Christian Church is going to host a Latino family fun night, with all Spanish speaking youth, teens and adults invited to come and have some fun and hear what God has to say to them. Luis Cavazos, pastor of the Church of the Living God in Weslaco, Texas is going to speak.
Cavazos, who frequently travels to Minnesota to work managing field crews for farmers in the Canby area, has been visiting the area for 30-plus years. Cavazos also has family in the area, and for some time those with local connections have been working to get him to conduct a worship service in the community. This year it is finally going to work out. In addition to the worship service, which is scheduled to start at approximately 5 p.m., the church and its business sponsors, are going to be providing free pool passes for children of families who are participating in the event. There are going to be some lawn games and live music offered for those who are in attendance. The service is scheduled to last about half an hour, and is being followed by a pot luck meal starting at 5:30 p.m. Grilled chicken is being provided for those who attend the event, and all are asked to bring a dish to share. Those planning to attend are also encouraged to bring lawn chairs. More pool and games time follows the service. All are encouraged to attend this event. For more information, call the church at (507) 637-8683.
