  • In late February Ralph Kolp died unexpectedly. The long-time friend of many organizations in Redwood Falls has sorely been missed by those who knew him and worked with him. Among those who had the privilege of serving with Ralph were members of the Redwood County fair board. Kolp, who spent nearly a decade on the fair board, was recognized during the fair when the exhibit building was dedicated with its new name – the Ralph Kolp Exhibit Hall. “He really enjoyed being at the fair,” said Theresa Kolp, his wife.
Kolp said she and Ralph began their connection with the fair about 27 years ago when she started exhibiting her products. Every year since then the family has had a booth in the exhibit building, and over the years Kolp just got more involved. “He started volunteering and then got on the fair board,” said Theresa. “I think if he saw what was going on he would be amazed. It is very nice to know there are people who are thinking of him.” Theresa had a booth at the fair again this year, and she said it is great to see so many vendors displaying their products. According to Jeff Potter, Red-wood County Fair board president, the dedication of the building in Ralph Kolp’s name is a small gesture the fair board can offer to someone who was a true friend of the Redwood County fair. “We wanted to do something to honor his memory,” said Potter, adding Ralph took over the exhibit building when he got on the board. This past Monday afternoon Potter said he thought the 2014 county fair was a success, adding the attendance was up especially Friday night. “It might have been our best night ever,” he said. Apparently, Kolp was looking down on the fair. With the fair now in the past, Potter said plans are now beginning for 2015, adding the dates for next year are going to be announced soon.
