  • For the past two years, the Redwood Falls Lions Club has sponsored a 5k run/walk in the afternoon right before the annual Redwood Falls community parade in June. With all the 150th anniversary events going on that same weekend next month, the Lions got permission from the Redwood Falls City Council on Tuesday to change the route and time. This year, the Lions’ run/walk is a morning event, starting at the fairgrounds at 7:30 a.m. on June 21. The Lions needed the city’s permission because several roads will need to be closed for the run/walk for safety reasons. Once runners leave the fairgrounds, they will go north toward North Redwood, then turn left onto ActiveAid Road, and down North Swain Street to Legion Park. Finally, they will head eastward back to the fairgrounds. The route has already been approved by the Redwood Falls Police Department, and was okayed by the city council as well. Registration for the Lions’ 5k run/walk begins at the fairgrounds at 6:30 a.m. In other city news, the council: • Approved a $64,800 bid to Harold K Scholz for the west substation relay upgrades. • Approved adding a week to the timeline for substantial completion of the South Power Plant Equipment Upgrade, from April 18 to April 25, and the final payments from May 16 to May 23. The change in schedule is due to one of the manufacturers supply delays. • Awarded the 2014 Seal Coat Improvement Project to Caldwall Asphalt Co. of Hawick, MN, in the amount of $241,988. In addition to seal coating the streets, the bid includes the trails around Legion Park, Johnson Park, the Reede Gray Elementary School trail, and the trail from Normandale to Gould Streets.
