  • Sesquicentennial committee offers certificates for descendants of early settlers

  • Redwood Falls is celebrating its sesquicentennial in 2014. In honor of that occasion the sesquicentennial committee is proud to offer four distinct commemorative certificates to eligible individuals. To qualify for a family certificate, applicants must prove direct descent from an ancestor who lived at either the Redwood Agency prior to 1864 or who was a resident of Redwood Falls from 1864 forward. Certificates are being given in four categories, each with a specific time period: • First Nation Families – those who arrived prior to 1864 • Founding Families – those who arrived between 1864 and 1880 • Pioneer Families – those who arrived between 1881 and 1900 • Century Families – those who arrived between 1901 and 1914 How do you apply? First, complete all of the pages of the application form. Second, provide documentation your family was living either at the Redwood Agency prior to 1864 or was a resident of Redwood Falls from 1864 forward. If possible, include photographs of your ancestor, submitted on a CD or e-mailed as JPEG files. Finally, write a check. The fee for certificates in $35. Checks should be made payable to “Celebrate Redwood Falls.” Please do not send original documents, as submitted information is not going to be returned. Submitted applications are going to be compiled and made available for viewing after the sesquicentennial events at the Red-wood Falls Public Library and Redwood County His-torical Society. An awards ceremony is going to be held at the Red-wood Falls Public Library June 20, with the time to be announced. Presentation of certificates is going to be made at that time. If you are unable to attend your certificate would be mailed to you.
