  • When Dennis Hoffbeck decided he needed to expand his certified public accountant firm, DM Hoffbeck and Associates, he knew he wanted a downtown building with a history.
The building he chose started out as a the Citizens State bank nearly 100 years ago, and was the home of the Redwood Gazette for several decades.
One of Hoffbeck’s goals was to keep as much of the building’s historical character as was practical.
The remodeling started in early July, and by mid-October the firm moved in, before construction was really finished.
Another goal was to give each of his accountants his or her own office.
“The clients get better confidentiality, and the accountants get more work done when they have their own spaces. In the previous building we had five accountants working in one room,” Hoffbeck said.
Much of the decor and furnishings was found through auctions and sales of other antique buildings. For example, much of the wood trim came from an old bank in Lake Lillian.
“The city has been great to work with,” Hoffbeck said. “We couldn’t have done this without a rehab loan.
“When I first toured this building I wasn’t sure, but it’s grown on me,” he said. “The lobby is about 20 square feet larger than my whole last building.”
