  • The Thooft and Hansen families, both impacted in different ways due to the fire at the Thooft home this past week, are in need of help, and the community is being given the chance to offer that assistance financially through some funds which have been set up in the area.
At www.giveforward.com a fundraising effort has been established for Neal Hansen and his family. Hansen, who slipped and had his legs injured as a result of being run over by a tanker truck, remains hospitalized as a result of the incident.
Type in “Neal Hansen” in the find a fundraiser box. There are a few days left to make a donation. The goal has been long surpassed, but added donations are being accepted.
Also at www.giveforward.com, a fund has been set up for the Matt and Bernadette Thooft family, who lost a home and two of their children, Hazel, 7, and Isaiah, 4. Type in Thooft Family Fund to make a donation.
First Independent Bank of Lucan has set up a fund for the Thooft family. Checks can be made out to the Matt and Bernadette Thooft Benefit and mailed to P.O. Box 138, Lucan, MN, 56255. Donations may also be dropped off at the bank.
The United Way of Southwest Minnesota is also assisting the family. Donations, including gift cards, clothing and non-perishable items, are being accepted. For more information, call (507) 939-2273.
