At its first meeting in December, the Redwood Falls City Council approved a number of new technologies for the Redwood Area Hospital.
Among the items approved include:
• Two GE Corometrics Fetal Monitor, price $17,900.
This system monitors mother and baby during labor. The hospital commission’s recommendation was to purchase two of the monitors to replace existing ones that are near the end of their useful life.
Price of a new monitor is $15,789 each, but the hospital’s OB staff is comfortable with used monitors, and recommended the purchase of two used ones for $17,900.
• Drager Birthing Room Monitor, price $8,236.
This warmer is designed for use in the nursery, and in labor and delivery rooms immediately following the birth of the baby. The hospital’s current warmer is 16 years old.
• GE Mac 5500 Electrocardiogram (EKG)/ CardioSoft Client Workstation, price $14,797.
EKGs assist physicians in diagnosing cardiac disease and heart attack. The RAH’s current EKG machine is at the end of its life and is no longer supported by the company.
The ClientSoft Workstation is used to connect and share patient and procedure data.
• Phillips V60 Noninvasive Ventilator, price $12,084.
This ventilator supports hospitalized patients who suffer from obstructive sleep apnea and respiratory insufficiency. Upgrading to a newer model will provide uninterrupted operation during AC power loss and will replace the current machine, which is eight years old.
• Two Liko Lift System, price: $26,138 for two.
The Liko Lift system is an overhead patient transfer system that supports the ongoing goals to move patients safely, and to prevent employee injury during patient transfers.
This purchase allows one additional patient room, and an additional room in the Emergency Department to be equipped with overhead lifts.
• Transcutanious Billrubin Meter, price $5,841.
This machine assessed the risk of newborn baby jaundice. Checking a newborn at 24 hours of age has become a standard of care, and it has been recommended by the physicians that the RAH complete this procedure on all newborns.
