  • In honor of outstanding contributions in the fight against cancer, the American cancer Society recently presented the volunteers of Redwood County a Relay national per capita award at the 2013 Minnesota leadership conference held in Redwood Falls.
The Relay For Life of Redwood County ranked seventh nationally in its population bucket of 15-19,000 averaging $6.55 per person.  These awards are determined by population using adjusted census figures and based on the per capita income from all of the Relay For Life events in each county.  There are 10 winners in each population bucket.
“The American Cancer society recognizes and appreciates when volunteers go that extra mile to make an event successful,” said Jen-nifer Evans, Relay For Life specialist. “The volunteers of Redwood County did just that this year. It is not surprising that Redwood County has received a national per capita award once again.  2013 marked their 20th year of Relay For Life and they know what it takes to have a successful fundraising event.  Redwood county begins their new Relay For Life year in September, and they continually show their teams and participants the benefits of fundraising year-round. They’ve already completed a large fundraiser that gets all of the teams involved and had their best year yet with that particular group campaign. The Relay for Life of Redwood county is held at the beautiful Gilfillan Estate near Morton and if you've never had a chance to see it, you'll want to add it to your Relay For Life bucket list.  Their next event will be held on July 18, 2014.”
Relay For Life is the world’s largest movement to end cancer, where each year more than four million people in over 20 countries raise much-needed funds and awareness to save lives from cancer.
