The RVMS Knowledge Bowl season is in full swing, and the students who have been competing for the local team have been seeing success.
“We placed second by one point,” said Nathaniel Passe, in talking about the meet RVMS took part in this past Monday.
There are two teams from the local school district who have been competing, and Passe said the teams have been mixed up during those meets. Yet the teams have been placing to-ward the top at each contest they have been at this season.
“We have won some and have been pretty close in others,” said Passe, who has been a Knowledge Bowl participant since seventh grade.
Now a freshman, Passe was able to compete this year at the middle school level for the final time.
He said he opted to give it one more try before fully moving on to the high school competition, because he believes they have a chance to finish strong.
The middle school program is open to students in Grades 7-9, and in addition to Passe, the team includes Natalie Polak, Dylan Wood-ford, Xander Seaman, Gage Rohne, Madisen Clennon, Madelyn Collins, Halle Runck, Becky Vang, Teresa Munshower and Kelsey Greenslit.
The RVMS Knowledge Bowl team is coached by Jamie Steffl.
Passe said he got involved in Knowledge Bowl after seeing his older siblings see success.
“One of my sisters went to state and got second,” he said.
Passe said he has continued with the program, because he finds it to be fun, adding he is the kind of person who likes trivia.
The team continues to compete in the area, with sub-section competition scheduled to take place in December. With the local teams in the running for the top spot at every meet they have competed in, one can be sure they are going to be ready for the next level.
