The Salvation Army is seeking volunteer bell ringers to raise much needed funds to help their neighbors in need.
This year’s Red Kettle Campaign starts today at Tersteeg’s and Nov. 29 at Walmart both in Redwood Falls. Bell ringers are the heart and soul of this Christmas project, as it has been observed most donations are put in the kettle when a bell ringer is present. To volunteer to ring the bell, contact Roald Haugan at (507) 640-0090.
Bell ringers are needed throughout the season until Christmas Eve for two hour shifts from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. (except for Thanks-giving and Sundays).
During Christmas by Candlelight, a kettle is also going to be at the corner of Washington and Second streets in Redwood Falls.
Kettles can also be found at 15 locations within Redwood County and at  the 2nd Time Around Store in Redwood Falls.
The funds received in the red kettles are going to be available to meet the needs of people in Red-wood County.
Nearly $22,000 was raised one year ago and those donations were used to provide help to people in Redwood County.
The money donated was used to provided alternative housing for 10 nights after the fire at Lakeside Manor for those who did not have other housing options.
Funding was also provided for six children to go to camp and for a crock pot for 15 families who participated in the crock pot cooking class along with food used in the class.
A donation in the amount of  $1,000 was made to get supplies for the Back-to-School project for 300 students  and for 50 clothing protectors for residents of an area nursing home. Funds were also provided for the following needs from red kettle funds:  medical prescriptions, tires, car repairs, gas, diapers, food, groceries, motel stays, bus passes, utilities and rent.
Again this year the Salvation Army is going to be assisting with the “Fill the Truck” project at Walmart where toys and gifts for family members are going to be collected for Share the Spirit in Redwood County. Dates for the project are Nov. 30 and Dec. 7.
Volunteers are needed to help with this event from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.  Call Haugan if you can help for a couple of hours during this collection project.
Gather your friends and co-workers and catch the holiday spirit as you ring the bell for a few hours and support the needs of the residents in our community.
