Several months ago, former Redwood Falls High School audio-visual teacher Warren Johnson was going through some old boxes that survived a fire in 2009.
Johnson, who is now retired and living in Mounds View, found several photos from his years here that he couldn’t explain — pictures of famous Minnesota politicians Hubert Humphrey and Walter Mondale visiting the Redwood Falls airport.
If the photos date from the early 1970s, as Johnson suspects, then Humphrey was a former Vice-President who served from 1965-1969, and was currently a senator.
Mondale would have been Humphrey’s Senate colleague at the time, and on his way toward becoming Jimmy Carter’s Vice-President from 1976-1980.
Beyond that, Johnson can’t really provide details for the photos. He sent them along to the Gazette “for possible historical usage.”
We print them now to see if any of our readers know the story of when Humphrey and Mondale visited the Redwood Falls airport.
Does anyone know when this happened, or who the people in the photos are?
We’ll pass along any information we receive in a future issue.
