Duane W. Penske, 51, of Vesta passed away unexpectedly at his home Sunday, September 22, 2013. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 28, 2013 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Vesta.
Visitation with viewing will be held from 4-7 p.m. Friday, September 27, 2013 at the Sunset Funeral Home in Echo with a prayer service being held at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday with no viewing. Duane Willis Penske was born November 1, 1962 to Allen and Doris (Henriksen) Penske in Granite Falls. He grew up on the family farm near Vesta and was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Vesta.
He attended and graduated from the Echo and Wood Lake Schools in 1981. After graduating from high school, he continued his education at Southwest State University in Marshall, receiving a degree in both arts and education.
After college, Duane remained on the family farm and taught various art classes for a number of different art foundations.
Duane is also known for his love of the Beatles, unusual artwork and his caricatures that he made of family and friends.
Duane was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Vesta and was also involved with an Art Foundation for Grants.
Duane enjoyed the arts, cooking, fixing computers, fantasy football, visiting his friends and being in the company of his cats.
Grateful for having shared in his life are his siblings, Janice and husband Glenn Kuck of Winsted and Gary and wife Margaret Penske of Vesta; sister-in-law, Patrice Penske of Lake George; nieces and nephews, Colin (Amber) Dahl, Jordan (fiance Alyssa) Kuck, Miranda (Adam) Phillipi and Brittany Kuck; aunts, uncles and many cousins and a host of friends.
His parents, brother, Arlen Penske and nephew, Jeffrey Penske, preceded him in death.
