  • Curt Schmidt, 47, of Danube died Saturday, September 21, 2013 at North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale due to injuries from an automobile accident. Funeral services are Sept. 26 at 11:30 a.m. at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Redwood Falls with Pastor Jonathan Kruschel officiating. Burial is in St. Matthew’s South Cemetery at Danube. Visitation will continue at St. John Lutheran Church in Redwood Falls for one hour prior to the service. Arrangements are with Dirks-Blem Funeral Service Olivia.
    Curtis Fredrick Schmidt, the son of Harry and Ruth (Zumbach) Schmidt, was born in St. Paul May 13, 1966. He was baptized in St. Paul on May 19, 1966, confirmed this baptism on November 27, 1966 at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Danube and was confirmed  May 18, 1980 at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church.
    He grew up on the family farm near Danube which was homesteaded by his great-grandfather. Curt graduated as valedictorian from Danube High School in 1984 where he had been captain of the wrestling team.
    He graduated from SDSU in Brookings, S.D., with a degree in agriculture. He farmed and raised hogs for several years, and these past 15 years he has been a UPS driver in the Redwood/Morgan/Morton area.
    In 1987 Curt’s friends set him up on a blind date with Marsha Fullerton of Olivia. On March 17, 1990 they were married at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, and they were blessed with three children.
    At St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church he was very active on the church council, and now where the family worships at St. John Lutheran Church in Redwood Falls he has served on the stewardship committee. Curt loved working with computers, doing church meditations and spending time with his family.
    Curt is survived by his wife, Marsha Schmidt and his children, Samuel, Tabitha and Cameron all of Danube; his sister Marcia Schmidt of Willmar; his two uncles: Herbert and Mary Ann Zumbach of Ryan, Iowa and Jim and Cathy Zumbach of Manchester, Iowa and his aunt Sandy Zumbach of Lake Stevens, Wash.
    Curt was preceded in death by his parents and his grandparents.
