ACMC in Redwood Falls is now offering flu vaccine for patients
The local clinic is offering several products this year. Flu mist is available again for healthy two- to 49-year- old individuals.
This year, certain vaccines are going to guard against four strains of flu rather than the usual three.
Called quadrivalent vaccines, these may prove more popular for children than their parents. That’s because kids tend to catch the newly added strain more often.
The influenza injection is also available for anyone six months of age and older.
Are you allergic to eggs? An egg-free pro-duct for those 18-49 years of age who have not been able to be vaccinated in the past because of a severe egg allergy is going to be available in October.
Health officials recommend a yearly flu vaccine for nearly everyone, starting at six months of age.
According to Jo De-Bruycker with ACMC’s health learning center, “Flu seasons are un-predictable. Although we see outbreaks of influenza each year, the timing, severity and length of the season varies from year to year. This is why we encourage everyone to schedule an appointment to receive the influenza vaccine as soon as it becomes available. This is the first and most important step in protecting against this serious disease.”
