  • For the past few years the Lower Sioux Indian Community has hosted a walk to honor those who have died from violence.
Aptly called the Walk Against Violence, that event is being held this Friday starting at 9:30 a.m.
The walk starts at the Redwood County courthouse in Red-wood Falls and travels to the community center at the Lower Sioux Community.
According to Justice Wabasha of the Lower Sioux Tribal Council, the event is held to honor those who have been victimized by anything from drugs to suicide or domestic abuse to alcohol.
A poster is being created to honor the names of those victims, and those planning to take part are going to be able to write those names on the sign at the start of the walk. An opening prayer and drum song are being held as the walk begins.
The public is invited and encouraged to attend the walk to help honor those who have been the victim of violence. A luncheon follows the walk at the Lower Sioux center.
