  • The 8th annual Wood Lake Battlefield Symposium will take place on Saturday, September 21.
    The event, which again will be held at the Kilowatt Community Center, will feature Franky Jackson, the director of the Renville County Historial Society as the keynote speaker. Jackson’s discussion is titled “The Aftermath of the U.S./Dakota War and the Exile of the Dakota.” He will expand that with a discussion on the plight of many half-breeds during and after the U.S./Dakota Conflict of 1862
        Registration and check-in for the event begins  at 10:00 a.m. and the event get underway at 10:50 with a welcome and the keynote presentation by Jackson.
        In the afternoon,  Bill Crowder a bugler and Civil War re-enactor will offer an explanation of Bugle Calls and Commands.  
        At 1:15 a bus will be available to take symposium participants to the Wood Lake Battlefield Site,  and visit various battle locations where Crowder will demonstrate bugle calls and commands.
      The tour will conclude with a closing ceremony held at the nearby Wood Lake monument along County Road 2 and the bus is scheduled to return to the Kilowatt Community Center at 3:45 p.m..
        The registration fee for the symposium is $30 dollars per person and $20 dollars per student.
