On a farm site just a few miles from Redwood Falls a family has created a setting through which they are able to share their passions for the cowboy way of life but, more importantly, for the way of the follower of Christ.
Ron and Cheryl Rathbun have created the cowboy church camp on a site in the Minnesota River Valley, and this weekend they are having an event there.
This is the third annual cowboy church camp, and activities begin Friday night with a campfire and sing-along. Those planning to attend can set up their camps any time after 3 p.m.
Saturday starts with breakfast at 8 a.m., with horseback riding for the kids after breakfast. Hiking or a wagon ride to the bluff follow at 11:30 a.m.
An adults only horseback trail ride starts at 1 p.m. There are also games and crafts available during the day.
A pot luck supper is set to start at 5 p.m.
Those planning to attend are asked to bring a dish to share.
According to Cheryl Rathbun, the highlight of the night is a country/gospel performance by Greg Hager.
Hager has been playing, singing and writing music since he was seven. He has been named the western artist of the year by the Academy of Western Artists. His performances include “stories about love, life, living and faith.”
The farm is located at 24681 County Road 15 (the river bottom road) near the Schwandt Memorial.
All are invited to attend this year’s event. Free will donations are being accepted to help support this event now and in the future.
